Senior Associate Dean at Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing receives national honor

Jean Davis, PhD, RN, selected as member of the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research National Advocacy Committee Jean Davis, PhD, RN, senior associate dean for research and PhD program director at the Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing in St. Louis, has been selected as a member of the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research National Advocacy Committee. FNINR is a nonprofit group that provides resources to support nursing research and advance the mission of the National Institute of Nursing Research. 

Davis was among five nurse researchers across the nation selected and appointed as a member of FNINR's National Advocacy Committee. The committee provides input for determining strategies to advance advocacy efforts and outcome measures for advocacy initiatives.

“We are thrilled to see Dr. Davis continue to be recognized for her work,” said Gretchen Drinkard, PhD, RN, interim dean and Jack Taylor Senior associate dean for academic affairs at Goldfarb School of Nursing. “She is an outstanding leader who has cultivated a national reputation for her tireless efforts in giving back to the nursing profession.” 

Last year, Davis was selected as a FNINR Ambassador. Ambassadors are nursing and health care leaders that possess stellar research, leadership and communication skills and are selected from a national pool of applicants based on their abilities to advance public, professional and policy-maker awareness of the critical research agenda linked to the National Institute of Nursing Research. Davis was also among 163 nurse leaders to be inducted as a 2015 Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a distinguished group comprised of the nation's top nursing executives, policymakers, scholars, researchers and practitioners.  

Davis, who joined Goldfarb School of Nursing in February 2014, leads the school’s efforts to develop a collaborative nursing research program that promotes a scientific link between academics and clinical practice. She has extensive experience as both a nurse practitioner and a nurse scientist.

Throughout her expansive career, Davis has served academic appointments at Wayne State University, University of Florida College of Nursing, University of Arizona, University of California-Los Angeles, University of California-Davis and University of California-San Diego. She is a Robert Wood Johnson Faculty Scholars mentor, has served on National Institute of Health Center for Scientific Review panels, has secured federal funding for her research program and training grants, and has received a variety of other honors and awards.
