Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing honors alumni and recognizes their contributions to health care in nursing practice, research, health policy, education, or administration with two prestigious annual awards: the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Young Alumni Award.

Alumni Awards Nomination Process
Candidates may be nominated year-round. The Alumni Council will review all completed nomination packets and base their decision on the content included. The decision on award recipients is subject to final approval by the dean.
Who Can Be Nominated
Nominees must meet the following requirements:
- Be a living graduate of the Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing or a legacy school
- Willing to attend the award ceremony
- Demonstrates leadership and excellence through outstanding contributions to the discipline of nursing
- Has demonstrated by their actions the importance of continuing education throughout their nursing career
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to nursing by involvement in professional and community activities or organizations
- Consistently demonstrates excellence in care by going above and beyond the basic standards of care as endorsed by patients, team members, ancillary staff, and the community in which the alumni serve
Distinguished Alumni Award nominees must have graduated at least 10 years ago. A 15-year waiting period is required for previous award recipients.
Young Alumni Award nominees must be in the first 10 years of their nursing career post-baccalaureate and meet four of the following criteria:
- One or more DAISY nominations or equivalent professional organization recognition for excellence in patient care
- Currently pursuing additional education, certification, or advanced degree
- Achieved Professional Nurse Development Program (PNDP) status or professional organization equivalent
- Actively engaged in research efforts outside their daily job description
- Actively engaged in a professional organization committee, preferably with a leadership position
- Implementation of new or improved evidence-based practice with notable outcomes for either their interdisciplinary work team or patient care
- Currently an active preceptor in their nursing discipline
- Currently volunteers within their organization or community for at least 100 hours annually
- Wild Card: Any initiative, participation, collaboration, or engagement that positively impacts the field of nursing, medicine, organization, or community
How to Nominate
Nominations may be submitted by alumni, faculty, staff, students, family, or administrators and are accepted throughout the year. All nomination packets must include the following:
- Completed nomination form
- A letter of nomination explaining why the nominee meets the qualifications
- Other details or pertinent data that might prove helpful in supporting the nomination
