Student Identity Verification Policy

Verifying the Identity of Students Enrolled in Distance or Correspondence Courses:

Goldfarb School of Nursing students currently receive access to all College related computer-based systems through the Information Systems (IS) department. The process for acquiring this access requires the student to have a signed BJC Confidentiality Statement in their student file and to be actively enrolled in a course. Students are assigned a login and choose a personal password to access the system. The BJC Confidentiality Statement clearly outlines a user’s responsibility to protect proprietary information; to use systems for their intended purposes only; that all transactions logged under the user’s account will be accredited to the user; and that the user is not to share logion information with others. Consequences for failure to comply with this policy can lead to actions including the removal of access to College systems and administrative dismissal from the College.

The IS Department sends the login instructions to the personal email account provided by the student through their Admissions application. Once the students enable their credentials, they must activate the DUO application on their phone as a secondary method to verify their identity in order to access GSON platforms (i.e. Canvas, Outlook, GusConnect, etc.) when they are off-campus. Unless a student shares their credentials, no one else would be able to login to their accounts without the use of DUO when off-campus.

Goldfarb School of Nursing’s Information Systems department send steps on how to activate the GSON login to their personal account. In the instructions, the students are required to enroll their cellphone in DUO (a two factor authentication system) and reset the initial password before using any of our applications.
