DR. ANGELA CLARK NAMED PRESIDENT OF GOLDFARB SCHOOL OF NURSING AT BARNES-JEWISH COLLEGE

Following an extensive national search, Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College has named Angela Clark, PhD, RN, MSN, CNE, FAAN, the Maxine Clark and Bob Fox President, effective May 1, 2022. Dr. Clark will report to the College’s Board of Trustees and Bob Cannon, Group President of BJC HealthCare.

She succeeds Dr. Nancy Ridenour, who announced her retirement after serving as President since 2017. Dr. Ridenour has accomplished a great deal in her time at Goldfarb leaving a discernable imprint and a strong legacy.  She has continued to play an integral role while a new leader was recruited, helping ensure a smooth transition and will conclude her term as President on December 31st.

Clark currently serves as interim Associate Dean, and Executive Director of Undergraduate and Prelicensure Programs at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing, a position she has held since 2019. During her tenure at the University of Cincinnati, Clark has been recognized for Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring, Faculty to Faculty Mentoring, and as the University’s E-learning Champion. She has completed residency experiences with the National Institutes of Health, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, and is a recognized Apple Distinguished Educator actively participating in Apple educational initiatives and ‘think-tanks’.

“Dr. Clark brings a distinguished background in academia, research, and community involvement. Most of all, she is a dynamic, values-driven leader who will have a strong impact at Goldfarb on our students, faculty, staff, and community,” said Gene Kahn, Goldfarb School of Nursing Board Chair. “We look forward to working with Dr. Clark to continue our legacy of educating outstanding frontline nurses and leaders, creating innovative and exemplary academic program and building partnerships vital to the College’s continued growth”

Her federally funded research has included the development of multiple educational interventions to support inclusive learning environments in health professions, harm reduction efforts related to the opioid epidemic, reduce stigma against persons with substance use disorders, and increase knowledge and implementation of evidence-based best practices for substance abuse treatment. In addition to her academic and clinical work, Clark is an active public health advocate and has been a strong supporter for policy and practice change, within nursing and across health care professions.

A search committee, co-led by Cannon and Kahn, included executive leadership from BJC HealthCare and Washington University, academic leaders from across the College, including faculty members and staff, alumni as well as members of Goldfarb’s Board of Trustees.

“The Search Committee set out to ensure the next leader of our College possessed passion and a commitment to collaboration, in order to attract, prepare, and inspire the next generation of nurse leaders,” said Bob Cannon. “We are grateful to the Search Committee for their dedication and celebrate their success in identifying a dynamic leader like Dr. Clark, who will help fulfill our mission through academic excellence, innovative research, and community engagement."

“I am excited and honored to join the Goldfarb and BJC HealthCare family,” said Clark. “There is a clear urgency to address health inequities and nurses, through education, practice, research and policy, are uniquely positioned to lead this charge. I’m passionate about nursing and look forward to listening to the community stakeholders and thought leaders across the Goldfarb and Washington University campuses. By leveraging momentum and committed partnerships, I believe Goldfarb is well-poised for distinction among colleges of nursing.”

Dr. Clark earned her undergraduate and master’s nursing degrees from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and PhD in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati. She has previously held faculty positions at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
