Financial Aid

Welcome to the Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College Financial Aid section! We are proud that you are interested in joining other talented and caring individuals at Barnes-Jewish College to achieve the education you need to be a success in today's progressive healthcare industry. To that end, we want to assist you as much as possible in reaching your goals. This section is designed to answer some basic questions you may have about applying for financial assistance as well as what types of assistance are available. For applications, questions, or further information, please call or stop by our office. We are looking forward to seeing you in the upcoming academic year and assisting you in financing your education!
 
For students seeking Federal financial aid for Summer 2010, Fall 2010 or Spring 2011, please follow the instructions below.

If you wish to receive Financial Aid, here are the steps you need to complete:

1. Federal Student Aid PIN

Many of the applications below require you to obtain a Personal Identification Number. If you already have a Federal Student Aid PIN, please use it when completing the FAFSA, MPN, & Entrance Counseling. If you do not have a PIN, please go here to obtain your PIN. 

2.  Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)--Please complete the 2010-2011 application

This application is sent directly to the Federal Processor.  After processing, a Student Aid Report (SAR) is sent to the student, and an Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) is electronically sent to the Financial Aid Office, provided our Title IV school code (006389) is listed on the FAFSA.  There are two ways to complete the FAFSA:

  1. Via the Internet at www.fafsa.gov
  2. Directly through the Financial Aid Office by appointment

3.  Institutional Scholarships

The Fall 2010 Institutional Scholarship application is now available. Please click below to complete and submit electronically to our office. If you have any questions about the application or need assistance in submitting it, please contact our office.

4. External Scholarship Opportunities

External/Private Scholarship applications can be found in GUS Connect.

Please note: You must have an active GUS Connect login to view these electronic applications. Otherwise, the paper applications are available outside the Financial Aid Office.

5.  Entrance and Exit Counseling

In order to receive Stafford Loans, you are required to complete Entrance Counseling. Upon completion of your program, you will need to complete Exit Counseling  session prior to entering repayment.

6.  Federal Stafford Loans

Educational loans, repayment begins six months after separation from the school.  There are two types of Stafford Loans:

  1. Subsidized:  Need-based; government pays the interest while in school, during six month grace period, and future deferment periods
  2. Unsubsidized:  Non need-based; loan gains interest after first disbursement is sent to school; borrower may choose to pay interest monthly or defer the interest into the principle of the loan.

7.  Graduate PLUS Loans (For MSN, CRNA, or DNP/PhD students only)

In order to apply for this loan, you must have a valid FAFSA on file. If your Stafford loans are not enough, you can apply for this credit based Federal loan.

8.  Alternative Loans (For undergraduate students only)

If you have additional costs you may apply for a credit based alternative loan.  Please review this chart, and apply if you wish to be considered for this loan.

9. Parent PLUS Loans (For dependent students, that need additional funding)

*Please note that if you participate in a loan forgiveness program as a benefit of employment through BJC, this loan does not qualify.
