SIGMA THETA TAU INTERNATIONAL
HONOR SOCIETY OF NURSING
TAU IOTA CHAPTER #439

The TAU IOTA CHAPTER Of Sigma Theta Tau International (SSTI) Honor Society of Nursing was started in 2004, to:
- recognize superior achievement;
- recognize the development of leadership qualities;
- foster high professional standards;
- encourage creative work; and
- strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession
The Honor Society recognizes excellence through publication of its members activities in newsletters, presenting annual awards for leadership, clinical excellence and mentoring, and awarding prizes for scholarly activities. The Honor Society hosts several events throughout the year, including a research day, an annual business meeting and educational program, and an annual induction ceremony of new members (held in May each year).
Spring 2009 Honor Society Newsletter

Membership in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing is by invitation and eligibility is based on the candidate's academic and professional achievement. Candidates are invited to join in one of two ways: in their educational programs (BSN and/or MSN) or as a Nurse Leader.
Criteria for BSN nursing students to be invited include having a 3.0 minimum GPA, being in the upper 35% of their class and having completed at least one-half of the nursing curriculum. Graduate students (MSN) eligible for membership must have a 3.5 GPA and have completed one-quarter of the curriculum. Those joining as a student do not need to apply for membership; students meeting all the criteria are invited to join and will receive letters of instruction.
Nurse Leaders are those with a minimum of a baccalaureate degree who have demonstrated marked achievement in nursing education, practice, research, administration or publication.
Those desiring membership as a Nurse Leader must apply and show evidence of achievement.
Membership in the Honor Society is life-long, however to be considered an active member, annual dues need to be paid.
