ST. LOUIS - Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College welcomes its first research professor, Kevin Mallinson, PhD, RN, AACRN, FAAN, Barnes-Jewish Hospital Professor.

Dr. Mallinson is a distinguished educator, researcher, consultant and specialist in the area of HIV/AIDS nursing care. He has held several teaching positions, most recently as associate professor at Chamberlain College of Nursing in Arlington, Virginia. Previously, he spent 10 years as assistant professor of nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University and then at Georgetown University.

He has held several nursing positions - as a staff nurse on dedicated HIV/AIDS nursing units at Kaiser Permanente Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Hospital & Health System; as a critical care/ermergency department nurse and staff development coordinator at Florida Keys Health System; and as an educator in the AIDS Education and Training Center at the University of Maryland Medical System.

Dr. Mallinson’s research has been successfully funded by various university and federal grants, including the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), and the National Institutes of Health-National Institute for Nursing Research (NIH/NINR).

Currently, he serves as a panel expert for the American Academy of Nursing and the International Council of Nurses in Geneva, Switzerland. He is also journal reviewer for several publications, including: the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, Archives for Psychiatric Nursing, International Nursing Review, Health Services Review Journal, African Journal of AIDS Research, Qualitative Health Research, and the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing.

Dr. Mallinson received his bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Miami and his master's and PhD in nursing from the Johns Hopkins University.

This endowed chair is the fourth endowed position through the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation.

As research professor, Dr. Mallinson will conduct an active research program, teach in the new doctoral program and provide leadership to promote Barnes-Jewish College in the community.
