Nurse Educator
Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College offers the Master of Science in Nursing Nurse Educator Concentration for BSN-prepared registered nurses interested in becoming professional educators with competencies in patient education, staff development and academic education.
The Nurse Educator Concentration prepares students to assume complex professional roles in a variety of settings by integrating prior learning with advanced discipline-specific coursework and clinical experiences.
The Nurse Educator Concentration emphasizes the role of nursing in higher education, including the importance of research, service and teaching in academic settings. Students learn the basis of curriculum design so they can build and refine curricula. They also learn to design a variety of clinical scenarios and apply them into a simulated learning environment.
Students conduct their practicum experience by teaching during classes and clinical under supervision of a faculty preceptor.
Graduates of the Nurse Educator Concentration will be prepared to teach students in an academic setting, as well as patients and practicing nurses in various clinical settings including hospitals and community health care agencies. A postmaster’s educator certificate is also available for students with previous nursing master’s degrees.
Graduates will be eligible to take the National League for Nursing’s (NLN) Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) exam, upon completion of requisite experience.
